MRA dates Asian business community
The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) on Tuesday dated the Asian business on the introduced Voluntary Compliance Window (VCW), which is an opportunity to tax defaulters to regularise their affairs.
During the meeting held in Blantyre, MRA commissioner general, John Biziwick, noted that the Asian business community was equally important.
“We decided to have the special session with the Asian community because they are important part of our commercial sector,” said Biziwick.
He, however, clarified that issues of non tax compliance are across the board including the Asian business community, the Malawian business community, multinationals and noted that the tax collector is reaching to everyone to be compliant.
Speaking on behalf of the Asian business community, Altaf Mahomed asked for more time for the window noting that three months was short.
However, MRA said the three months is long enough, but noted that they will asses at the end of the period if an extension is necessary.
VCW is an opportunity availed by the tax collector to all tax defaulters including income corporate tax, withholding tax, value added tax, pay as you earn which opened on November 1 and runs through to January 31 2014 to regularise their affairs without penalties.
